Some Lives Make Great Stories:

“PSA HealthCare gave our family renewed hope. Without their support and knowledgeable care, I know that Corey would not be where he is today” - Sheron Turner
Corey Turner - Lightweight Champion of PSA
A pre-term delivery at only 24 weeks and weighing all of 2 pounds, ZaCorey (Corey) Turner entered the world with more strikes against him than most people have in a lifetime – chronic lung disease; severe infections; feeding intolerance. He developed Grade 4 IVH, an intraventricular bleed in the brain that required a surgical shunt from his brain to his abdomen and before he was 6 months old, Corey underwent additional surgery for trachaelmalacia – a floppy windpipe.

But Corey was a born fighter. Armed with oxygen, apnea and cardiac monitors, Corey’s family joined forces with PSA HealthCare’s private duty nursing staff to get the training and assistance they needed to bring Corey home and keep him there. As Corey progressed and was gradually weaned off oxygen, PSA continued to work with Sheron Turner, Corey’s mom, to transition Corey to one of PSA’s nearby Pediatric Day Treatment Centers for Medically Fragile Children (PPEC). The PSA PPEC provided Corey with skilled nursing care in a friendly day care environment where Corey was able to interact with other technology dependent children. This enabled Sheron to return to work and helped the family regain their independence and a more structured family life.

At the PSA PPEC, Corey received continuous rehabilitation and social interaction. He developed both physically and emotionally. As a result of ongoing support and professional nursing care, he was able to overcome his physical setbacks more quickly. By the time Corey was 2 years old, he was completely weaned off his trach and developmentally ready for a traditional pre-school environment.

ZaCorey Turner is a Champion. His success story protrays what PSA is all about . . . skilled professionals helping medically fragile children continue their fight to develop and grow.
